- Locate a blank page in your Bible. (There is usually at least one in the very front or back.)
- Mark the number of the chain, the topic, and the first passage location.
- Do not write anything else on this page, and try to write relatively small. This page will fill up with topics very quickly.

- Go to the first passage. (2Cor 4:16)
- Mark only the number of the chain next to the passage.
- By marking only the number, it will keep the scripture area of the page free from clutter.
- I like to circle the number as it makes it easier to find on the page.
- I also like to put a corner shape at the beginning and end of the section.
- I don’t recommend highlighting the section as there are several topics that will have some overlapping passages and it could get messy.

- At the bottom of the page, write the chain number and location of the next passage.
- The completed page should look like this:

- At each passage there is a point to be made for the topic. This is where your small notebook will come in handy as there generally isn’t enough room to write notes in the margins, even in a wide margin Bible.
- There is no definitive method of how to take the notes for the points that are made at each passage. This part is up to you.
- Here is an example:

- Go to the next passage (Genesis 1:26-27) and repeat the same steps.
- The completed page should look like this:

Continue repeating the steps for each passage until the chain is complete.
